Yes, a member can choose to leave a group on their own. 

1. Click on your profile in the upper right corner.
2. Select Leave this group... from the list of options.

Note: If you leave a group in an organization, you will also be removed from all sub-groups. 

If you prefer to just turn off text or email notifications, you can do so by updating your preferences.
